Wolftech snowmobile track sprockets are engineered to withstand the demanding conditions of snowmobiling while providing efficient power transmission to the track for smooth and reliable operation.
To ensure proper clearance for deep lug tracks on your vehicle, you need to consider the clearance between the top of the track paddle and the bulkhead, as well as the additional height of the new track. Let's break down the steps to make sense of this:
- Initial Measurement: Measure the clearance from the top of the track paddle to the bulkhead, which is the smallest clearance area.
- Adding Extra Paddle Height: After measuring, add the extra height of the new track. For example, if your measurement is 1” and the new track has 1.25” paddles, you need to account for this additional height.
- Required Clearance for Track Deflection: After installing the new track, you still need at least 1/2” of clearance for track deflection while driving. This ensures that the track can flex properly without rubbing against the vehicle components.
- Example Calculation: Let's say you have an initial clearance of 1” and you're upgrading to a track with 2” paddles. This leaves only 1/4” of clearance (2” - 1” - 1/2”), which is insufficient.
- Adjusting Sprockets: To gain more clearance, you can consider installing smaller drive sprockets. For instance, switching from a 9-tooth sprocket to an 8-tooth sprocket could gain you 7/16” of additional clearance.
- Total Clearance Calculation: By adding the gained clearance from the sprocket change to the remaining clearance (7/16” + 1/4”), you can ensure that you meet the proper clearance recommendation. In this case, it adds up to 11/16” of clearance, which meets the requirement.
- Gear Ratio Adjustment: It's important to note that changing the sprockets might affect the gear ratio. Thus, you may need to adjust the upper chaincase gear to maintain the proper gear ratio for optimal performance.
In summary, by carefully considering the clearance requirements, adjusting the sprockets, and potentially modifying the gear ratio, you can ensure that your vehicle accommodates the new track properly while maintaining optimal performance.
